What is a Pseudohalitosis

Lets face it, all of us have bad breath from time to time and it can make it difficult for us to be socially active if it really becomes a problem. There may be times, however, whenever our bad breath is not really stemming from a problem with our mouth at all but rather, a problem with the mind. This is the case whenever it comes to Pseudohalitosis, a mental health condition in which the individual feels as if they have a problem with bad breath whenever a problem does not exist at all. Let's take a look at this type of halitosis and see whether there is any type of cure that is available.

The first thing that you need to understand is that a person who is suffering from Pseudohalitosis is not actually suffering from bad breath at all. Although it may happen on occasion, more than likely they don't have it at all, or at least a lot less than those of us who regularly deal with bad breath. The reason why this is the case is because many people who suffer from this mental disorder tend to brush their teeth so often and to do everything within their power to get rid of bad breath that they usually don't have a problem with it in the first place.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to convince somebody with Pseudohalitosis that they do not actually have a problem. Typically, it is a deep-rooted mental disorder that may seem somewhat harmless on the surface, but it actually causes problems for these individuals that are difficult to measure. For example, somebody who is suffering from Pseudohalitosis typically have it to the point where it can be considered a social disorder. People with Pseudohalitosis tend to lock themselves away from society out of fear of offending somebody or embarrassment out of their bad breath which does not actually exist.

The good part is that it is often easier to treat Pseudohalitosis than it is to treat actual halitosis. A person is going to have to seek counseling in order to overcome Pseudohalitosis problem but often, once they are convinced of the fact that they do not have a problem in this area and have some ability on their part to overcome the mental part of the situation, they can go about their normal lives. Those of us who are dealing with bad breath, however, need to continue to treat it regularly.
